I was mistaken about
Powell's having 47 copies of this book in a remote warehouse - it's not
theirs, but they were willing to order a copy for me to peruse prior to
purchase. I appreciate this service, because I already own half a dozen
volumes by David Ray Griffin on this subject and was only really
interested in this one because of what the title suggests.
A significant portion of the book deals with the subject of
"conspiracy theories" and the common tendency to dismiss anything
labeled as such without carefully reviewing the facts as they become
known.
Griffin Is the leading authority or scholar valiantly attempting to
prevent the government and its mouthpieces from obfuscating. As far as I
could tell from perusing this book (I don't claim to have read it), it
doesn't present new information, but systematically and honestly
dismantles each and every attempt to promote the official version of
9/11/2001 and to discredit alternative scenarios.
I have yet to meet anyone who has read any of David Ray Griffin's
books who doubts that 9/!! was an inside job. In other words, the nay
sayers refuse to read the relevant books. If you believe the official
version of events and are "at least 30% open minded", you should read
one of Griffin's books - not necessarily this one (if you do choose this
one, you'll want to read the others): "Contradictions", "The 9/11
Commission - omissions & distortions" are both excellent. If you
choose "The New Pearl Harbor", you should also pick up the "revised"
companion volume... He's also written a book that focuses on the
mysterious collapse of WTC #7 on the evening of 9/11, which most
certainly was a controlled demolition (as well) and one on whether Osama
Bin Laden is dead (most likely) or not. None of his books are
speculative (except momentarily, when he says as much). They are derived
from published and substantiated sources and draw rational and reasoned
conclusions.

A front page article in
last week's Oregonian (about the significant number of people around the
world who share the view expressed by Iranian President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad at the UN that rogue elements in the United States
government were behind the 9/11 attacks) prompted me to take the four
excellently researched and reasoned books by David Ray Griffin off my
shelf and review them.
I was staying in a cabin in eastern Oregon on 9/11 w/o a TV, but I
listened to NPR all day and was incredulous when I heard about WTC #7
collapsing into it's footprint that evening as if by controlled
demolition. Upon returning to Portland and reading the newspaper reports
with photos of the perpetrators and stories about Mohamed Atta leaving
his briefcase full of incriminating evidence at Logan airport and his
passport being found on the streets of NYC, my skepticism increased. The
original "New Pearl Harbor" did an excellent job of summarizing the
evidence that contradicted the official version of what occurred on that
day. Since then there has been the 9/11 Commission and it's report,
which Griffin exposed as a whitewash in his "Omissions and Distortions"
book and the Popular Mechanics article and book (supporting the official
story and "debunking" the so called "conspiracy theories") which
Griffin exposed as fraudulent in his "Debunking 9/11 Debunking" book.
There has also been a concerted effort by both the mainstream and the
alternative media to discredit those who question the official version,
as Griffin outlines in the introduction to "The New Pearl Harbor
Revisited".
Griffin is a stickler for facts which can be substantiated, hence he
felt the need to correct and update his original seminal work, which
this book effectively does. Much of the material has been covered in the
various books that Griffin has written and edited in the intervening
years, but short of reading those excellent volumes, this book will
bring readers of the original NPH up to date. For someone (with at least
a 30% open mind) who has not read any of Griffin's books, I would
suggest starting with "Debunking 9/11 Debunking" as a more concise and
readable primer or "9/11 and the American Empire (intellectuals speak
out)", which Griffin edited along with Peter Dale Scott. One could also
read "NPH Revisited" with a copy of the original version on hand for
cross referencing.
I heard on KBOO this morning that David Ray Griffin has published a
new book titled "Cognitive Infiltration: An Obama Appointee's Plan to
Undermine the 9/11 Conspiracy Theory", which I see that Powell's has 47
copies of stashed away in remote warehouses. So clearly the
administration is concerned that the alternative scenarios about what
transpired on that day that changed everything are gaining traction.
President Obama's claim to be shocked that anyone would suggest that the
U.S. government was in some way complicit in the attacks is clearly
posturing.
NB an otherwise positive review on this site repeatedly referred to
Mr Griffin as Griffith - don't be confused by this...

and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Former Minnesota Govenor and pro
wrestler Jesse Ventura has questioned the official account...".Well, we
all know that those guys are all crackpots, so by inference anything
that they believe must be false - right?
The article goes on to site various conspiracy theory debunkers and
suggests that some of the theories are "tinged with anti-Semitism
because of the close U.S.- Israeli alliance." Ultimately the main
argument to refute evidence that "controlled demolitions destroyed the
twin towers and the Pentagon was hit by a missile" and that WTC #7 also
collapsed in the manner of a controlled demolition (an event completely
ignored by the 9/11 commission) and that flight 93 was probably shot
down by an air force jet. is that "All this would require hundreds if
not thousands of people to be in on the plot."
The article cites a US State Department website as saying:
"Conspiracy theories exist in the realm of myth, where imaginations run
wild, fears trump facts, and evidence is ignored." In all his books,
David Ray Griffin very carefully studies the official record and
compares it to the published facts and eye witness accounts of what

I have not yet seen David Ray Griffin's latest book "Cognitive
Infiltration: an Obama appointee's plan to undermine the 9/11 conspiracy
theory", as all Powell's 47 copies are stored in remote warehouses, but
assume that it is as insightful as all of his previous books on the
subject, which I have been reviewing in order to select one to loan to a
dubious friend. I have concluded that this book is an excellent primer,
because it directly addresses the nay-sayers and exposes their false
science and reasoning.

Having read several

book, but since all 47 copies in Powell's possession are stored in

strong evidence that 9/11 was an inside job by infiltrating the 9/11

those who question it.

TIM CALVERT'S MOVE TO THE RIGHT
While Tim Calvert has been a longstanding progressive organizer in Portland since the 1980s, on
Central America solidarity, on anti-Iraq War organizing (Bush, Clinton and Bush II), for Palestine, against Israel -- probably for as many as 25 years -- in the last 5 years or so, on a number of issues, Tim Calvert has apparently moved to the Right in several areas. Holocaust denial being the most glaring of these areas.
As someone who has known Tim Calvert since he was a volunteer for me when I did fundraising for Portland's Interagency Food Bank in the mid-80s (25 years), and an organizer who was present at the meeting at Laughing Horse when Tim was voted out of the collective (and where Rainier quit the collective), I've had long discussions with Tim and other organizers regarding many of these issues:
--on Holocaust denial: Tim Calvert's official response to allegations he doesn't believe the Holocaust happened have been along the lines of 'the holocaust of war in WWII was a destructive force' but nothing that specifically says Tim Calvert believes 6,000,000 Jews were killed by the Nazis in the Holocaust. Tim C. did schedule (it was cancelled before it happened, and moved to Old Wives Tales, where Tim personally introduced the speaker, and was taped) a right-wing speaker from Lithunia at Laughing Horse. That speaker allegedly was critiquing the Frankfurt School (one the accusations against the Frankfurt School is that it was all-Jewish, according to Spencer, the ARA workshop coordinator this past weekend in Portland).
--on Pacifica Forum: Tim Calvert went to Eugene and listened to speakers at the right-wing Pacifica Forum, and Tim reported back to Laughing Horse at a meeting that the student body president at UO was a Jewish woman who with other students picketed and protested Pacifica Forum meeting on campus, and eventually protesting students got Pacifica Forum to move downtown, off the UO campus.
--on European laws prohibiting Holocaust denial: Tim Calvert says these are bad laws that should be abolished, that free speech should include the right of people to question whether the Holocaust did or didn't happen. (Note: Tim is a great advocate for the Palestinian cause, but many Left organizers insist one can be pro-Palestinian and not be anti-semitic). Spencer, in his workshop, noted that Spencer himself, in New York, has stopped working on Palestinian issues because the word 'zionist' should not be used by the Left (this was hotly disputed by people in the audience at the ARA workshop).
--on zyklon B/gas chambers: Tim Calvert has said there are many uses for zyklon-B, and that gas chamber technology can have many uses, per se, while the documentation for the Holocaust is questionable. Many of Tim's issues are raised in terms of 'asking questions' rather than flat-out statements, per se. When Glen (a former Laughing Horse volunteer banned from the store) was asked whether Tim did, in fact, deny the Holocaust happened, Glen stated, "Tim is a very smart man." Tim also likes Amenabajad (sp?), current right-wing president of Iran.
--on immigration and Cesar Chavez: Tim and Rainier (at Laughing Horse Books) both suggested that Portland isn't the place to have a street named after the UFW leader. Tim said naming something for Cesar in Woodburn would be more appropriate. Rainier, who lives in north Portland, said "I don't have a dog in that fight, Chavez doesn't have anything to do with my neighborhood, and I personally have friends in VOZ." Tim says that legalizing immigrants helps to depress wages for regular U.S. workers. (At PSU, Progressive Student Union has argued both for renaming a street for Cesar Chavez in Portland, and renaming PSU itself as Cesar Chavez Univesity. Portland City Council voted 5-0, finally, to rename 39th Ave. for Cesar, and the signs are going up now!).
--on identity politics and Left v. Right: Tim says that 'identity politics' (groups who may be for gay rights, black or brown civil rights, etc.) can be used as a diversionary tactic by those in power to keep people from finding out "who the real players are" behind the scenes who are controlling the media, the economy and politics. Tim also says the political spectrum of Left v. Right is invalid, that there is no real ideological differences -- only those in power and out of power (this seems to copy the Libertarian argument that the political spectrum is really a circle and like Daniel Bell's book, The End of Ideology).
--on global warming: Tim says global warming is a myth concocted by elites to distract people from the 'real issues.'
Overall, then, Tim Calvert is a conspiracy buff. One of the Saturday night speakers at the ARA conference this past weekend, asserted that 'conspiracies tend to bleed over, most of the time, into anti-semitism.'

organizing white separatist talks:
On Wednesday, June 10, Valdas Anelauskas, a self-described "white separatist" who is involved with Holocaust-denial circles, gave a presentation to a group of sympathizers in Portland, Oregon. The event was sponsored by the Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance, and was initially scheduled to take place at the Laughing Horse Book & Video Collective.
Members of Rose City Antifascists ("Antifa") —the Portland affiliate of the Anti-Racist Action Network—were among those who contacted Laughing Horse Books about the scheduled event. The Laughing Horse collective canceled the anti-Semitic event within 48 hours of being notified about its true nature. Subsequently the Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance moved Anelauskas' talk—on the topic of "The Frankfurt School and Cultural Marxism"—to a secondary venue, which was also discovered by Antifa and then persuaded to cancel on the day of the event. Unfortunately, Anelauskas' talk then went ahead at a third venue, a restaurant obviously booked at the last minute.
Valdas Anelauskas is a "racialist" (read: racist) activist currently based in Eugene, Oregon. This Lithuanian immigrant has assisted the World Anti-Communist League, an organization that supported Latin American death squads and has harbored former Nazi collaborators. Anelauskas is now active in the Pacifica Forum, a Eugene, Oregon organization which hosts Holocaust-denial speakers such as David Irving plus Mark Weber of the Institute for Historical Review. Anelauskas himself claims that the evidence for the Holocaust is "shaky", that Jewish people are responsible for "Bolshevism", and that the infamous Protocols of the Elders of Zion are credible. Anelauskas' position on Jewish people is clear:
"Only from people of that peculiar tribe can we expect such Talmudic hatred for humanity. There is even a famous saying that wars are the Jews' harvest."
While Portland 9/11 Truth Alliance activist Tim Titrud was one organizer for Anelauskas' talk in Portland, Titrud appears to have been assisted by a cast of several others, especially Tim Calvert, who is well-known in Portland as a co-founder of Laughing Horse Books as well as the Citybikes Workers' Cooperative. Calvert's conspiracy theories about Jewish power, and his denial of the Nazi genocide against the Jewish people, have been an open secret in Portland for years.

As a life long activist who has struggled for human rights and justice for all people. Who respects the religions and spirituality of all people. Now I am being anonymously attacked and accused of all sorts of things without ever being asked to clarify anything. I am not anti-Semitic. I don't deny the horrors of WWII including the Holocaust and the many forgotten details of that time.
I do want to acknowledge that inviting Valdas Anelauskas was wrong and I apologize for creating this controversy and doubt in my credentials as a progressive activist. Thank you, Rose City Anti-fascists, for bringing this matter up in such a vigorous way. I would like to apologize to anyone I may have offended. Rose City Anti-Fascists have helped deepen the discussion of what is offensive.
Having talked with many people over the last few days, I want to further clarify why the 9-11 truth group invited Anelauskas and what my position is vis-a-vis him.
The 9-11 group invited him because we had had some limited contact with him when a number of us went to Eugene and met him after a Pacifica Forum event. The Pacifica forum itself has been under attack from various players, including the Southern Poverty Law Center. The lecture we saw was prepared by Anelauskas, and was an expose on the Southern Poverty Law Center. A contact we had with the Pacifica Forum alerted us to a new lecture he had prepared about the Frankfurt School. We decided to invite him to speak.
I should say that we were not intimately familiar with all of Anelauskas's views and did not subject his background to heavy scrutiny. When the event was targeted by this outside group, whom we also really don't know, i.e. Rose City Anti-Fascists, we were defiant.
As this controversy has expanded, I want to clarify my politics vis-a-vis Anelauskas. Much of what he said in the lecture and subsequent conversations revealed that he had a naïve and reactionary view of American politics (the fifties were great), a rather tortured view of European politics (the Western Tradition was under attack, but when queried on the definition of Western Tradition, that too, seemed naive and ill formed). He does offer an unusual perspective - Latvian, Soviet Dissident, a scholar without a home, filled with a certain amount of (perhaps justified) bitterness. Would the 9-11 group invite him again? I doubt it.
The 9-11 Truth group has a fairly long history of taking on controversial issues and positions. The group has invited other speakers that it has not agreed with. I would say that the 9-11 group values Free Speech in the highest way, as we have watched the narrative of the 9-11 attacks being solidified into a ludicrous conspiracy theory involving Arabs in a Cave, and the voices challenging that lie systematically silenced.
In summary, I do not agree with most of Valdas Anelauskas's politics, some of which I agree is offensive. Does this mean he never makes any good points? He was invited to talk about the Frankfurt School and he did so. Did the group assembled think he was unassailable? No. As people may be aware, I have a long history of political work and thinking, and am happy to share my perspective with others. Fundamentally I believe in Justice, Solidarity, and Human Rights for all. My perspective on religions is respectful and supportive; spirituality with community are to be lauded. I have no problems with individuals in any faith. I do reserve the right to criticize organized religions when they are being used to justify oppression and, unfortunately, all three in the Abrahamic tradition have had that history. A person's ethnic or religious background is secondary to the actions they display in the world. I deny making any broad accusations about any ethnic or religious groups. I judge people and institutions by their actions, not their appearances.
So do we. And the actions of Calvert and his group show they're lying closet Nazi stalking ho bag cultists trying to pass as fuzzy, feel good lefties to con people.

I realize that this post comes late in the discussion but I am not
an aggressive internet user. I believe that the attacks against me by
rose city antifa are not, in fact, related to my participation in the
9-11 group and the occasional speakers I have been associated with, but
instead, due to to my pro-Palestinian activism, and criticism of Israel.
The vehemence and underhandedness with which this anonymous group
attacks me looks very similar to the standard Hasbara (Israeli
propagandist) smear of anyone critical of Israel.
Since the death of Rachael Corrie in 2003 and then the savage attack
on the refugees in Gaza in 2009 I have been a visible vocal critic of
the Israeli state and the lobby which protects it here in the United
States. Thus I join the ranks of other critics of Israel in having my
name smeared publicly and my career threatened. My politics have been
represented by the three buttons I have worn pretty continuously since
2009. "We are all Palestinians" "Islam is not our Enemy" and "Peace with
Iran". I have been actively involved in Solidarity with the Iraqi
refugee community that now resides in Portland. These are the things I
believe in.
This aggressive attempt to peg me to all sorts of noxious "beliefs"
is pretty standard practice in Hasbara technique. Below is the response I
sent to the bike cooperative with links further explaining the sort of
political milieu that Palestinian Solidarity Activists must navigate. To
rose city antifa I would like to suggest that rather than dividing,
demoralizing and attacking peace and justice workers, they propose
positive campaigns that would unite our positions. I would suggest that
they employ their aggressive techniques to helping the people of
Portland mount a material aid caravan to the people of Gaza.
Finally I would like to say that I feel personally threatened, it is
clear that the rose city antifa is a prototype of a black-op militia
that could escalate to violence at any moment. Their targeting of me and
Citybikes suggests that collateral damage is of no concern to them in
their quest of ideological hegemony. My future is uncertain as of now,
but I would like to appeal to my colleagues in the peace and justice
community for solidarity and support.

Dear fellow cooperators.
I am sorry that once again my political activity has drawn the coop
into the spot light. The accusations against me are politically
motivated and false. I have been a lifelong activist for peace and
justice and "hate" no one.
It is obvious from the latest round of attacks that even holding a
potluck at a park is too much political activity for my oppressors. It
is also painfully clear that I am under heavy surveillance from people
who aim to do me harm.
Therefore I am publically announcing my resignation and distancing
myself from the 9-11 truth group and will no longer organize any events
associated with them. I do this because I want to protect Citybikes from
defamation and because the 9-11 group has been effectively suppressed
in Portland.
There is, of course, a lot more to say. I will bring information to
the meeting on Monday to share that further elaborates my position and
affirms my struggle for human rights for all. When I helped co-found
Citybikes Worker Owned Cooperative 23 years ago, one of my motivations
was to create a business that protected the rights of the owners/workers
to organize politically without the fear of reprisal. I hope this dream
of people cooperating for a better world, with dignity and freedom of
thought, and speech and association is not just a pipe dream.

For over three years, a small, anonymous group called “rose city
antifa” has been trying to oust me from the Citybikes co-op in Portland,
Oregon, of which I am a founder member, supposedly because of
‘antisemitic organizing’. Tactics have included graffiti, online
advocacy of violence, and the use of ‘politically correct’ language to
make it sound as if people ‘feel oppressed’ by my alleged political
opinions, and those of people I have associated with, as a result of my
participation in the local “9/11 Truth” movement. The campaign has now
reached the point where the ‘anti’ fascists are trying to persuade
customers to boycott Citybikes until they fire me.

people who have spoken at public events that I am associated with, but
not about what they actually said at these public events. I have
organized no event in which the speaker was advocating hate of any
specific group or ethnicity. I cannot vouch for, nor should I have to,
what they may or may not have said in the past. Unlike my oppressors I
do not spend my time researching every “incorrect” thing a person may or
