Many of our people are not aware that this comes directly from the US White House. The person who is now Administrator of the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs named Cass Sunstein, is one of the "geniuses" responsible for giving officially sanctioned direction to the various intelligence agencies on how to deal with the September 11 Truth Movement.
Intelligence agencies have been spearheading various campaigns of disinformation targeting selected activists specifically with rumours, intrigues, harrassment, psychological violence and intimidation, in order to stir up infighting among members of the movement. To a large degree, they have been successful. This is witnessed by the tremendous splintering of the Truth Movement, and also by the fact that within most of its local chapters in the US it is right-wingers, neo-nazi sympathizers, male chauvinists, gay-bashers, Jew-haters and white christian supremacists who most often have the upper hand, turning people away and preventing the movement from uniting with the larger progressive and radical Peace and anti-war movement.
This was not a "natural" dissolution of the movement; it required a lot of intervention such as the above article, disseminating hate materials and personal attacks that have fueled countless fights among members of the movement.
This method of disruption used to be just one among the many within the "bag of dirty tricks" utilized by those in power, exemplified in modern times by the FBI's dirty war against the Black Panthers. But since in recent years it has received more attention in theoretical circles, now it has its own name: "cognitive infiltration".
"Sunstein co-authored a 2008 paper with Adrian Vermeule, titled "Conspiracy Theories," dealing with the risks and possible government responses to false, conspiracy theories resulting from "cascades" of faulty information within groups that may ultimately lead to violence. In this article they wrote, "The existence of both domestic and foreign conspiracy theories, we suggest, is no trivial matter, posing real risks to the government’s antiterrorism policies, whatever the latter may be." They go on to propose that, "the best response consists in cognitive infiltration of extremist groups", where they suggest, among other tactics, "Government agents (and their allies) might enter chat rooms, online social networks, or even real-space groups and attempt to undermine percolating conspiracy theories by raising doubts about their factual premises, causal logic or implications for political action." They refer, several times, to groups that promote the view that the US Government was responsible or complicit in the September 11 attacks as "extremist groups."

For more than ten years now, Truth activists have been working hard to promote this simple message: that the US Government's version of the events of September 11 is impossible, irrational, and at some points it even violates the laws of physics. And that to the contrary, there's a lot of evidence that sections of the US Government itself were either passively or actively compliant with the perpetrators, or even actively engaged as perpetrators, in those terrible acts. The most vicious obstacle faced by activists who are working to tell this simple truth, is the constant infighting generated by lies, disinformation and personal attacks such as the one published above.
In the words of Gretavo, these forces "keep us too busy fighting ourselves" so that our campaigns are driven into dead ends. Gretavo is one of the editors of the Forum on the World Trade Center Demolition website:
"As a truth movement we have many possible roles to play that aren't being played by those who should. We are in theory a large team of investigators, archivists, historians, marketers, etc. The purpose of a program of cognitive infiltration is not the overt one of correcting a bunch of loons' "crippled epistemologies", it is instead to keep us too busy fighting ourselves to effectively fight the real adversary, which in our case is the entire body of lies surrounding the events of 9/11."
So, does it matter that the claims against Petros Evdokas, Glenn Goldman and Sara Lamadrid published above do not make sense, given their impeccable record as community activists and their political and personal history?
Petros is a founding member of the Cyprus IndyMedia Collective. In his work, both in politics and in healthcare during many decades he has come into contact with thousands of people, and there are several hundreds who know him intimately through this work. He makes himself accountable to all these people through carefully observed procedures of transparency in conditions of direct democracy. Is it reasonable to accept the material published above as "proof" that Petros is colluding with neo-nazi enablers and sympathizers, has stolen personal information on false pretenses and gave them knowingly to suspected paedophiles to make creepy videos? Is all this material reasonable, or does it fall under the category of purposely deceptive reasoning?
Does it matter? Does it matter that this poisonous, "purposely deceptive reasoning" is used to attack Glenn Goldman's trustworhiness as a therapist? Does it matter that Sara Lamadrid, an honorable person, an intelligent and dedicated community activist, is depicted by anonymous slanderers as a "liar"?
Yes it matters. Because it is a clue. Another author on the World Trade Center Demolition Forum named Kenan, writing on the same subject on the same page, said:
"In my experience, I have found a very close correlation between disinformation agents and the use of purposely deceptive reasoning. Of course not everybody who utilizes these tactics are agents of disinformation, but it seems like just about all agents of disinformation make liberal use of these tactics, and those who may not be agents should not be resorting to those fallacies anyway. If someone can't seem to argue their points without resorting to fallacies and deceptive discourse, then people are less likely to consider that that person has any valid points, and for good reason."
There is a new "cognitive infiltration" operation currently in motion focused on Portland, Oregon, aimed at specific individuals and organizations within the Truth movement with the purpose of getting them to fight with each other. Some of the links in the above article point to material generated by this campaign, and now it is spilling over to Cyprus.
There were several previous waves of this type of "cognitive infiltration", before the phrase was even coined. During one of these waves of harassment and disinformation, the activists named above faced threats to their families and to their own lives, and suffered a tremendous amount of stalking; both in real life and on the internet. Some of that is documented in an article titled "Merchants of Pus" - you will see in it that some of the libellous and threatening material it points to has been removed by the hosting companies for violating the law. The article includes a political analysis of some of the forces that were involved that particular wave of intimidation:
